It is often said that the real beauty of a smile lies in the eyes. So why let your smile hide behind your glasses. ReLEx smile is a breakthrough in laser vision correction that offers a whole new level of precision, safety and comfort.

Introduced in 2012, ReLEx Smile procedure is the first and only bladeless and flapless minimally invasive 3D, FDA approved technique to visual freedom. It is a single-step laser surgery that takes about 25 minutes for both eyes. The experience is relatively painless. There is no frightening black out, no bleeding (red eye) or swelling of the eye after the procedure. The visual recovery is fast with good corneal stability. It is an option often preferred by athletes engaged in contact sports, flight crews as well as military and rescue personnel.

Your Advantages

$

The cornea surface is left untouched, preserving its biomechanical strength and stability better than other techniques.

$

Inflammation is reduced to negligible as the total laser energy used is up to 10 times lesser than an excimer laser.

$

Likeliness of dry eyes is significantly lowered, since no flap is created.

$

There is no use of surgical cutting instruments and involves no change of equipment during the treatment.

$

The entire process takes place in one easy step with unmatched precision for an excellent visual outcome.

$

Since this procedure is minimally invasive, it involves minimum intervention and therefore less after care is required, enabling you to enjoy your new visual sensation right from day one.

The SMILE procedure

Prior to the treatment – Anesthetic eye drops are applied to the eye. An eyelid holder is used to prevent the eye from blinking during the procedure.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for SMILE surgery?

SMILE is used to correct near sightedness, astigmatism, or both. You will first need to undergo a detailed eye examination to determine whether you are a suitable candidate. The curvature and thickness of the cornea, the nature and degree of your refractive error are among the factors that play a role.

How long does the procedure take?

While the laser correction itself takes only 24 – 28 seconds, the entire procedure may take about 15 minutes.

How do I prepare?

We recommend that you switch to glasses a few weeks before surgery, if you are using contact lens.  You are advised to refrain from applying makeup, lotions or perfume on the day of surgery. We also suggest that you bring a family member who can assist you.

Does Smile operation hurt?

Anaesthetic drops are used prior to the procedure making it virtually painless.

What happens after surgery?

Post surgery, the counsellor will share instructions on eye drops and other precautions that are vital to prevent infection and assist in the healing process. It is recommended to have a post-op examination the next day and further examinations after a few weeks as advised by our doctor.

When can I return to my normal activities?

In most cases, visual acuity is very good one or two days after the operation, and stabilizes within one week. While every healing process is different, normally you will be able to work, drive and play sports a few days post surgery.
