He completed his basic medical education at S.D.M.M.C.H, Dharwad, Residency from Ramaiah Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore, M.S Ophthalmology at R.R.M.C.H, Bangalore. Cataract and Refractive Training at Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore. He has worked under cataract and refractive surgeons of Moran eye Center, USA and S.N.E.C, Singapore.
He is an experienced cataract and refractive surgeon with special skills in LASIK, SMILE, Phakic IOL and premium IOL implants. He has presented papers in national and international conferences. He has won the Best Postgraduate Scientific Paper in the state conference KOS (Karnataka Ophthalmic Society).
He has won the Travel Grand Award in the international conference ARVO (The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology) 2015 for paper presentation.

Now I have very clear vission for distance and reading.Narayan Nethralaya is well equipped with state of the art equipments/systems/technology, infrastructure and more importantly well trained staff. There was no problem at any stage, I was accompanied to each department personally by the hospital staff. They are very supportive, polite and humble. Dr Naren Shetty performed my cataract surgery successfully on 29 Sept. Except for a little pain for a couple of hours after surgery which is normal, had no other side effects like Red eye or watery eyes. My vision has improved drastically.I was met with very helpful people at every stage, be it the registration, Reception, OPD, eye testing counters, Lab, Counseling, Insurance or the OT.Dr Naren Shetty greets you heartily and with a smile that you can sense from behind his Air purifying mask that has a speaker(was very fascinated by it). He really put me at ease and explained my condition and the way forward. We did not have any anxiety at any time. We also had got my fathers cataract eye surgery done by Dr. Bhujang Shetty few years back. Had smile surgery done with Dr. Naren Shetty. It was super simple, straightforward and hassle free. After I had a consultation and scans of my eyes were done, I was explain clearly what my options were in regards to LASIK, PRK, and SMILE. After I chose SMILE, I was clearly explain the preoperative procedures and I was able to schedule the day appointment for my surgery with Dr. Naren’s team. On the day of the surgery, I was taken into the OT, the team explained to me what was about to happen. Then Dr. Naren guided me as the machine with the laser aligned to my eyes, he was very calm and talked to me through out the procedure (which itself took no more than 10 minutes in total). After the procedure, I was give counseling on the post operation procedures. My pain began to increase as the numbing drops wore off but the pain was very very mild and manageable, it was 5/10. Then as I left the hospital to go home it had began to reduce further and by the evening my pain was non existent and my vision was 70% back to normal compared to when I wore glasses. On day 2 there was no pain at all and my vision was 99% back to normal! Absolutely wonderful experience and would recommend this to anyone who is deciding to get refractive surgery done! |

I had went through Lasik Surgery in NN(BG Road). Process is very seamless from counter to counter. Doctor are very humble and polite , will recommend which is best suited for your eye even though they had to compromise on expensive treatment. Like in my case Blade-less Lasik was 40k extra and i was willing to pay but doctor recommended to not through that as slight risk involved in my case. After treatment also they do follow regularly which shows how concerned and sensitive they are😊 Best part is all surgeries are done by top doctors or expert in their domain personally. I visited Narayana Nethraya’s branch at Bannerghatta road to get my eyesight corrected (LASIK) and very fortunately, I met very professional, empathetic as well as friendly staffs and ophthalmologists. I’ll have to thank each and everyone to ensure that my gratitude is conveyed the right way. The gentleman at the entrance of the hospital is very courteous and greets with a very warm smile whenever I visited the hospital. Ms. Hameeda was very prompt, professional as well as very accommodating. There were instances where I was late due to situational difficulties and I was very worried that I would miss my appointments. Every technician who operated the eye examination machines have been very professional and are always smiling. Dr. Naren Shetty took time to ensure I understand the types of refractive surgery, LASIK, pre operative and post operative care and healing pattern in different people. Dr. Naren even resolved all doubts I had including whether there would be pain during/after LASIK, which led me to firmly decide that I wanted to have LASIK done. During the surgery, Dr. Naren Shetty was very calm, and put me into ease as I was very anxious. We are so grateful to Dr Naren Shetty for performing cataract surgery for my mother. She was scared of getting a surgery for so many years and only came now because the cataract had started affecting her badly. We got an appointment at Narayana Nethralaya and the entire experience so far has been wonderful. We have yet to come across a hospital where everyone from the receptionist to the staff are so caring and kind. As for Dr Naren, he put my mother at ease. The surgery was over in less than 1/2 hour and she came out smiling and reported that she was not scared at all because of the doctor. The surgery was painless and she didn’t even realize when it was over. | I would want to share my lasik experience at Narayana Netralaya: I visited on a saturday at the bannerghatta branch and being a weekend it was crowded. While entering the hospital, I had a small tussle with the security but the head of security was kind enough to calm me down. Next, the receptionist was very kind and helped me with the proceedings. I had to undergo an eyetest and meet doctor Naren Shetty. Dr Naren was very patient and explained the whole procedure clearly he even cleared all our doubts very well. I have never come across such a great experience with the doctor. The lasik was fixed for a week later, to be honest i was a bit scared but when i reached there the Dr helped me calm down and took really good care of me. He explained each and every procedure that he was doing. After every minute he made sure he ask me if I was dong fine. In the end I did not feel any pain and the whole procedure went very very smooth. I just want to conclude by saying I would definately recommend Dr Naren and Narayana Netralaya. Really happy with the surgery. No more glasses… |

Ms. Hameeda who patiently heard me out and promptly gave me an appointment with Dr. Naren Shetty(little did I know how good he was). Ever since, I’ve gone back many times with family and friends who needed an eye consult. Dr. Naren Shetty is an excellent surgeon who will patiently answer all queries and calm frayed nerves(especially since its the eyes). A special mention about Ms. Hameeda who not only helps schedules the appointment with the doctor but also constantly is in touch to ensure you keep it!! The staff especially the gentleman at the entrance who is always checking on a patient after the consult and recommending a review (he doesn’t insist it be good.. I came to know about Narayana Netralaya who can provide complete solution to such problems. Diagnosis was done prior to treatment and every thing went very well. Post to SMILE EYE SURGERY I was clearly communicated on pre medication and followed same. My surgery was done on 16th Dec 2020 by Dr. Naren Shetty which took hardly 15-20 minutes. So one day I decided to get it fixed through Lasik. Then I came across Narayana Nethralaya in the reviews for Lasik eye surgery. I got in touch with Pooja Kamal (You can get her number from the website). She was very patient and extremely helpful. She got me an appointment with Dr.Naren Shetty. Dr.Naren was very polite, gentle and an amazing doctor, he cleared all my doubts. I was a little confused but when Dr.Naren told me about his Lasik experience, I was more confident to do it and got an appointment the day after. Though out the surgery Dr.Naren will check whether you are fine and let you know precisely what was going to happen next, which was great because I knew what was happening and was prepared. The surgery was completely painless, there was a discomfort for exact 90 Sec for each eye during the surgery. When the surgery was over the vision was watery at first but it got better by the end of the day. I had a follow-up check-up the next day and my eyes were perfect 6/6. |

| Hello, My name is Shabbir, and my mother has/had got her right eye Cataract surgery done at Narayana Nethralaya Bannerghatta Road (April 23rd, 2021) They have a very nice and a detailed process for Cataract surgery. So please be informed it will take time for pre surgery investigations and tests. The staff is very cooperative and helpful. As it is/was a Covid time, I was not very sure for the surgery. But the precautions they take and measures to keep patient safe is really appreciated. Continuous sanitization by the house keeping staff is great. Thou I use to take my own precautions and one should do tht too. So please keep a sanitizer and maintain social distance. Special mention to Mr. Venkatesh, Ms Hamida, Dr Payal. They have made my mom very comfortable. Lastly, Dr Naren Shetty is an amazing person. Such a nice man, and the way he greeted my mom on first visit (before surgery) made my mom so positive about him and then she had no worries about her surgery. The surgery took about 15 mins, but you have to be at the hospital 1 hr before the surgery as they get you ready. My experience with them was really nice and I can recommend them to everyone.
