Dr. A. S. Karthikeyan (Dr. ASK) is a specialist in ophthalmology and subspecializes in comprehensive areas of Pediatric ophthalmology, Strabismus and Ocular Genetics.
After completing Medicine at renowned Stanley Medical College, he pursued his post-graduation in Ophthalmology at India’s first and world’s second oldest eye hospital, Regional Institute of ophthalmology, Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Chennai. He was awarded the best outgoing resident. He did his DNB at Aravind Eye care system, Tirunelveli. He came first at the National level and was awarded the Fellowship of National Board (FNB) at Aravind Eye Care System, Madurai. He was awarded the FRCS (Glasgow).
He established and developed the pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology services at Lumbini Eye Institute (LEI), Nepal. He has been trained in Pediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology (Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins, US) and Ocular Genetics at Wills Eye Institute; Americas’ first Eye Hospital. He was a former consultant pediatric ophthalmologist and Ocular geneticist at the reputed Aravind Eye Care system, Madurai.
He was a senior consultant and International faculty (2014-2021) and is now a visiting International faculty (Pediatric Ophthalmology & Ocular Genetics) at the renowned CMER (Dennis Lam) Eye Hospital at Hong Kong and China. He set up the International albinism Clinic at CMER and provides comprehensive eye care to almost 4,000-4500 children with albinism. He is also actively involved in annual volunteering work at Tibet and Cambodia, to treat children with complex eye problems and to train local ophthalmologists and pediatric ophthalmologists.
He is the author of a two volume colour atlas and several book chapters in several Text books. He has given several invited lectures and talks in national and International conferences. He has several publications in Peer reviewed journals and is also a reviewer for many internationally reputed Journals. He has International work experience and has contributed to several training programs and workshops in Tanzania, Tibet, Nepal, India, China & Cambodia.
His areas of interest include management of a spectrum of pediatric eye diseases including Pediatric and adult strabismus, Nystagmus, Specialist in management of Albinism, Pediatric neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric cataracts and Ocular Genetic disorders both in children and adults including providing genetic counseling services.
