Community Outreach Programmes:

The Andhra Pradesh Eye disease Study (APEDS), a recent population-based study on various aspects of blindness, including the prevalence and causes of blindness and visual impairment, prevalence of and risk factors for major eye diseases, and many other aspects, recommends the following actions for Availability and accessibility of eye-care services in rural areas:

• Widespread experiments to provide good-quality and sustainable eye-care services in rural underserved areas.
• Increase in the "outreach" activity. (targeted at those living in the rural areas and those belonging to lower socioeconomic strata in urban populations)
• "School-screening programmes" and other school-aged children though "outreach" activities in the community.
• Active eye-health promotion activities in the community.

In addition all services are to be made affordable.

Our policy to community service does take into account all these aspects.

In fact,in the August presence of Honorable Fiannce Minister Sri.P.Chidambaram, during the inaguration of our second unit on Hosur Road in June 2007, our chairman, Dr.K.Bhujang Shetty committed to providing affordable eye care to all classes.

Cataract Screening & Surgery:

In collaboration with local NGOs and well wishers, we conduct cataract screening camps at peripheral suburban and rural areas. Surgeries are performed free of cost or at subsidized cost.
