| The goals of the fellowship are to train ophthalmologists to become competent in the medical and surgical management of refractive and cataract cases. |
|
|
|
| Application Procedure:
Applications must be accompanied by a Curriculum Vitae and testimonials from two referees. |
|
|
|
| Duration: 15 months. |
|
|
|
| Session commences: In January and July each year. |
|
|
|
| Places available: Two in each session. |
|
|
|
| Qualifications: MS / MD / DNB (Ophthalmology) or equivalent degree or Diploma in Ophthalmology with a minimum one year of experience. |

| Learning outcomes: |
|
|
|
|
 |
|
Advanced training in medical and surgical management of refractive and cataract cases: the fellow would become competent to evaluate patients in the clinics, guide clinical decision making, and manage the disease independently, both medically and surgically. |

|
Be able to use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipments and interpret data . |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Be competent with using lasers in refractive and cataract surgery (Excimer and femtosecond lasers and Nd:YAG capsulotomy and vitreolysis). |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Assist and independently perform cataract surgical procedures especially phacoemulsification and anterior chamber / vitreous tap and intravitreal injections of antibiotics, corticosteroids and other agents as indicated. |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Assist / perform independently refractive procedures like collagen cross linking, Intacs, Excimer and femtosecond laser procedures, Phakic IOLs and Premium IOLs. |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Propose, run and complete at least one research project / audit towards publication in peer-reviewed journals. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The first 3 months will involve the fellow acquiring basic ophthalmic examination techniques through rotation with faculty members in various subspecialties, following which the fellow will work in rotation with all the faculty members of the sub-specialty.
In the final 3 months of the program, subject to satisfactory performance, the fellows will be permitted to manage patients independently as an adjunct faculty of the institute and work in the peripheral outreach centers of the institute. |

| The cataract department sees around 150,000 patients a year and has access to a fully equipped state of the art surgical facility and diagnostic center. |
|
|
|
|

|
OPERATION THEATRE Facilities: The cataract surgical theatre is a state of the art full stainless steel OT with HEPA filters providing laminar air-flow. All the latest phaco machines like the Infiniti, Signature and Stellaris with high end Leica M-844 operating microscopes with video-recording facilities are available for phaco and for refractive surgery there is the Wavelight Refractive suite as well as the AMO Intralase femtosecond laser. |

WET LAB Facilities: The hospital is well equipped with a state of the art wet lab for phaco training featuring 2 table mounted Leica operating microscopes, 2 Alcon Laureate phacomachines and video-recording facilities for surgical skills analysis. |

|

Equipment: A Scan biometry: Contact, Immersion and Optical Biometry, B scan, Specular Microscopy, OCT: Zeiss Stratus, Heidelberg Spectralis, Zeiss Visante (Anterior Segment OCT), Ultrasound Biomicroscopy, Pachymeter, ORBSCAN, TOPOLYSER & PENTACAM. |
