 Fellowship Programs - Long Term Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus

The goals of the fellowship are to train ophthalmologists to become competent in the medical and surgical management of usual and unusual eye diseases in children.  
Application Procedure: Applications must be accompanied by a Curriculum Vitae and testimonials from two referees.
Duration: 15 months.
Session commences: In January and July each year.
Places available: Two in each session.
Qualifications: MS / MD / DNB (Ophthalmology) or equivalent degree or Diploma in Ophthalmology with a minimum one year of experience.
Selection: An interview will be conducted in December and June
Learning outcomes:  
side_bullet_but   Be able to use and interpret state-of-the-art diagnostic equipments related to pediatric eye evaluation like orthoptics, electrophysiology etc.
  side_bullet_but   Advanced training in clinical diagnosis, evaluation and management of all forms of amblyopia, pediatric and adult strabismus and pediatric cataracts including surgical and medical management: the fellow would become competent to evaluate all the children in the pediatric ophthalmology clinic, in clinical decision making, and manage independently, both medically and surgically.
  side_bullet_but   Be competent in all other areas of pediatric ophthalmology including pediatric glaucoma, lid and lacrimal system abnormalities including trauma, retinopathy of prematurity and pediatric intraocular and orbital tumors.
  side_bullet_but   Get an exposure and training in the field of pediatric low-vision and visual rehabilitation to be able to exploit the full potential of the limited vision in children with varying levels of visual impairment.
  side_bullet_but   Assist and independently perform simple as well as complex squint surgeries in children as well as adults, pediatric cataract surgeries, other surgeries related to pediatric tumors, congenital glaucoma, basic oculoplasty and lacrimal surgeries.
  side_bullet_but   Propose, run and complete at least one research project towards publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  side_bullet_but   Be confident in taking seminars, giving lectures, making journal presentations and discussing interesting cases related this specialty.
In the final months of the program, subject to satisfactory performance, the fellows will be permitted to manage patients independently and work in the peripheral outreach centers of the institute (Pavagada taluk in Tumkur district) to gain additional experience in Pediatric community ophthalmology.
Applicants who have submitted their documents, experience certificate, registration certificates etc will be notified by email or by phone once the interview dates are confirmed by RGUHS.
