| The goals of the fellowship are to train ophthalmologists to become competent in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma and its sequelae. |
|
|
|
| Application Procedure: Applications must be accompanied by a Curriculum Vitae and testimonials from two referees. |
|

| Duration: 15 months. |
|
|
|
| Session commences: In January and July each year. |

| Places available: Two in each session. |

| Qualifications: MS / MD / DNB (Ophthalmology) or equivalent degree or Diploma in Ophthalmology with a minimum one year of experience. |

| Learning outcomes: |
|
|
|
|
 |
|
Advanced training in medical and surgical management of glaucoma: the fellow would become competent to evaluate patients in the glaucoma clinics, guide clinical decision making, and manage the disease independently, both medically and surgically. |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Be competent to use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipments and interpret data. |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Be competent with using lasers in glaucoma (iridotomy, iridoplasty, suturolysis, cyclophotocoagulation). |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Assist and independently perform trabeculectomy (with/without adjunctive therapy), glaucoma implants, combined cataract and glaucoma procedures |

|
Assist and independently perform SICS and phacoemulsification |
|
|
|
|
| |
 |
|
Propose, run and complete at least one research project / audit towards publication in peer-reviewed journals. |

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| The first 3 months will involve the fellow acquiring basic ophthalmic examination techniques through rotation with faculty members in various subspecialties (cornea, glaucoma, retina, oculoplasty, uveitis, pediatrics ophthalmology and strabismus), following which the fellow will work in rotation with all the faculty members of the sub-specialty. In the final 3 months of the program, subject to satisfactory performance, fellows will be permitted to manage patients independently as an adjunct faculty of the institute and work in the peripheral outreach centers of the institute. |

Surgery: Leica and Zeiss microscopes. |

Facilities/ equipment: Visual Fields (Humphrey Field Analyzer, Octopus Field, Frequency Doubling Perimetry), OCT (Zeiss Stratus, Heidelberg Spectralis, Tomey 3-D ASOCT), Ultrasound Biomicroscopy, Scanning Laser Polarimetry (GDx), Heidelberg retinal Tomography, pachymeter, fundus cameras, tonometers (Dynamic Contour tonometer, rebound), Ocular Response Analyzer. |
