 Fellowship Programs - Long Term Fellowship in Cornea & Refractive Surgery

The goals of the fellowship are to train ophthalmologists to become competent in the medical and surgical management of cornea.  
Application Procedure: Applications must be accompanied by a Curriculum Vitae and testimonials from two referees.
Duration: 15 months.
Session commences: In January and July each year.
Places available: One in each session.
Qualifications: MS / MD / DNB (Ophthalmology) or equivalent degree or Diploma in Ophthalmology with a minimum one year of experience.
Selection: An interview will be conducted in December and June
Learning outcomes:  
side_bullet_but   Advanced training in medical and surgical management of corneal pathology, the fellow would become competent to evaluate patients in the cornea clinics, guide clinical decision making, and manage the disease independently, both medically and surgically
  side_bullet_but   Be able to use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipments and interpret data - Orbscan II z, Pentacam, Aberrometry , Confocal microscopy, Anterior segment OCT, Ocular response analyzer , Non contact Specular microscopy , Contrast sensitivity and Tear film analyser
  side_bullet_but   Assist and independently performRefractive surgery- Lasik , Intacs, Collagen crosslinking
  side_bullet_but   Witness and Assist in Boston keratoprosthesis
  side_bullet_but   Independently perform Pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft using fibrin glue and sutures.
  side_bullet_but   Independently perform corneal tear repair and cyanoacrylate glue application with BCL.
  side_bullet_but   Amniotic membrane processing and grafting
  side_bullet_but   Witness and Assist in Cultured Limbal Stem cell transplant.
  side_bullet_but   Eye banking – participate in eye donation awareness programmes, tissue retrieval and processing ( cornea and sclera)
  side_bullet_but   Contact lens clinic- will get trained in RGP, Rose-K, and Boston scleral lens
In the final 3 months of the program, subject to satisfactory performance, the fellows will be permitted to manage patients independently.
Facilities / equipment: The hospital is well equipped with state of the art equipment.

  side_bullet_but   Lasik – Bausch and lomb excimer laser and wave light excimer.
  side_bullet_but   Intralase femtosecond laser – Lasik, Intacs, Keratoplasty.
  side_bullet_but   State of art stem cell lab for invivo limbal stemcell culture and transplant.
  side_bullet_but   Genetic lab – congenital ocular anomalies evaluation.
