How we see What we see, Diagnostics to Clinics…The Bridge every ophthalmologist must create
Narayana Nethralaya (NN) has always been in the forefront of innovations in the field of ophthalmology, as a result of which it has been voted amongst the Top Five Eye Hospitals in India (The Week, Nov, 2011).
We are proud to have started the New Year with a BANG by creating waves in the field of diagnostic medicine.
NN recently conducted an interactive Continuing Medical Education program “How we see what we see- Diagnostics to Clinics, The Bridge every ophthalmologist must create” on January 8, 2012. It catered to those ophthalmologists who had patients presenting as clinical dilemmas with visual disturbances that could not be explained by clinical examination or by routine tests. The forum discussed various ways of customizing patient care and surgery giving excellent results. Newer methods of refractive surgery and presbyopic surgery for those patients who wished to discontinue wearing glasses were also showcased. The faculty included senior ophthalmologists from India and abroad.
On the same day, NN inaugurated its latest state-of-the-art laboratory called NOVEL (Narayana Optics Vision Evaluation Laboratory) and a department, X Files in Ophthalmology. The department  headed by Dr Rohit Shetty consists of a team of brilliant consultants  with unconventional thinking and flawless instincts from the various subspecialities (anterior segment, neuro ophthalmology, vitreoretina, electrophysiology, neurology, neuroradiology, genetics etc), who thrive on the challenge of solving puzzling cases that have been referred from all over the world with unexplained vision loss. A lot of cases from this department were discussed at the forum and this was the highlight of the CME.
The available tools from the NOVEL, which includes the MAIA (Macular Integrity Assessment), C-QUANT, FACT (Functional Acuity Contrast Testing), OQAS (Optical Quality Analysis System), different topography and abberometers, the Electrophysiology lab etc. play a huge role in aiding the explanation of the unexplained.
It was well attended and appreciated by all .
